RATKOVA SKALA

          The locality Ratkova Skala is one of the most beautiful localities in eastern Macedonia. The rock is placed in the foot of the Osogovo mountains on the side of Probishtip, in a beautiful canyon covered in woods, with the river Shtalkovica flowing through. The river forms waterfalls on certain parts. The rocks are placed on the both sides of the river and the approaching point is by the road from the village Shtalkovica to the village Ratkovica, 2 km long, and not in good conditions for driving.

          The locality is relatively new and still not enough explored and promoted. Currently, there are only a few sport paths. The rock is being prepared for the first alpine climbing paths, because at some points, there are blocks that have to be removed first. The composition of the rock is granite with additional substances of quartz and it’s different on the both sides of the river. It has a great solidity, compactness and exposure which is almost vertical on the one of the rocks in its whole length of about 200 meters.  This rock actually is the highest of the locality and it offers possibility for many alpine paths.

         The locality itself and its whole surrounding is a wonderful place with untouched nature full of endemic flora and fauna. The last couple of years there are researches and landscaping to transform this locality into an Eco park, offering many amusements, cultural and sport activities. Along with the locality there is an already a completely arranged accommodation capacities with about 20 beds, some mountain bike trails, as well as sport-climbing routs and hiking trails. There are plenty of others activities planned for the future.
